Realign Retailer: Edge of Raw

When we look at the map of the Netherlands, we find the city of Maastricht in the southernmost part of the country. Maastricht is famous for its vlaai, (a traditional sweet pie), its historical architecture, and its world-famous carnival celebrations. This makes the city a popular destination for tourists and daytrippers.

If we zoom in a little closer, we find the Wyck district, an up-and-coming district with its own unique character. Wyck features a unique mix of charming streets, trendy hotels and exclusive stores, including one of the Netherlands’ best denim specialty shops, Edge of Raw.

Edge of Raw is housed in a beautiful, character-filled building, and they’ve managed to infuse that unique atmosphere inside. The tastefully decorated store, with racks and shelves brimming with the crème de la crème of the selvedge world, makes you instantly realize that you are in the right place. Although the products will impress on their own, the passionate team at the store will skillfully assist you during your stay, all to help you find a new pair of boots of the perfect-fitting pair of jeans. Truly, Edge of Raw is a denim haven, and this is incredibly well-executed by its owner Shaun Bastiaans.

Starting in September 2024, Realign Denim will be available at Edge of Raw. The latest Realign pairs will share shelspace with some of the best pairs of jeans and high-quality pairs of boots currently available on the market, and the team will help you find the pair of Realigns that are perfect for you.

Realign Denim at Edge of Raw is the result of a shared passion for Japanese denim. This alignment became crystal clear the first time we met. Given the passion and expertise of the team at Edge of Raw, its well-decorated store and the solid selection of brands available, we see Edge of Raw as a durable partner to grow alongside. We are very proud to have Edge of Raw as our stockist, to serve our customers at a brick-and-mortar store in the South of the Netherlands. We are confident this collaboration is what is right for Realign Denim at this moment as we carefully build towards the next chapters.

Introducing Edge of Raw, by owner Shaun Bastiaans

In order to properly introduce Edge of Raw as our stockist, we asked Shaun Bastiaans to briefly introduce himself and the store by answering five questions.

1. Hi Shaun, could you start by introducing yourself?

Hi! I am Shaun, and I have been a true passionate denim head since the early days. After many years working as an employee, in 2023 I had the chance to take over the former shop. Hence, my wife and I decided to change course. We moved to Maastricht and took over the former shop. Since September 2023, I have been able to share my passion for denim and rugged style with my customers.

2. For those who may not be familiar, can you explain the Edge of Raw concept?

We sell raw denim and durable goods for the rugged gentlemen. This varies from boots, denim, and military-inspired items. It’s not about fashion but about creating your own style. We like to inspire people to embrace this.

Edge of Raw exudes passion. My passion for quality products that has grown over the years, and this passion is reflected in the store. With this passion, I can advise and inspire people. A customer-friendly approach and service are my top priorities.

3. How would you describe your brand portfolio and collections?

All items are carefully hand-picked, and we only sell brands which match the rugged and durable vibe we have in mind. All items will get better with wear and tell their own story.

4. Tell us a bit more about Maastricht, what do you love about this city?

Maastricht is a city with two faces. It’s a great city for shopping but people often forget the historical aspect of the city. Besides this there are a lot of areas to discover outside the city center. The district Wyck, where my shop is located, is a great example of this.

My favorite spot for a beer is café called de Gouverneur. It’s a super cozy spot where you can enjoy a great selection of beers along with amazing food. The atmosphere is laid-back, and both locals and students appreciate this beer café.

5. How do you like Realign Denim? And what made you decide to add the brand to Edge of Raw?

I already was following Realign denim on IG, and the one thing that struck me was the passion and quality the brand is radiating. This passion really matches my own blue blooded mind, and once I was able to lay my hand on a pair of Regular Kenji’s, the quality was only validated. The quality and finishing is top-notch, making a pair of Realigns a must-have in my collection. A real cherry on the cake for the true denim head!
