Unraveling the Fabrics of our Latest Collection

On October 11th, 2024, we dropped a fresh collection of jeans under a new banner: Our Ode to Japanese Denim. The collection features three brand new pairs of premium denim, all of them woven, cut, and sewn in Kojima, Japan, following authentic Japanese manufacturing methods to ensure the highest quality. All pairs are made in our most popular Regular Kenji Silhouette, a relaxed fit with a clean taper for a contemporary finish.

The new collection, like the previous ones, is a result of a close collaboration between Realign Denim and the Japanese denim masters at Collect Mills.  to bring authentic, irregular and slubby Japanese selvedge denim of the highest quality. As one of Japan’s major denim mills and fabric creators, Collect Mills produce some of the denim industry’s most breathtaking denims. They have an impeccable reputation and decades of experience working with slubby yarns to create denims prized the world over for their beauty and texture. they have played an integral role in elevating Japanese denim to new heights and have been the driving force behind some of the biggest leaps forward in the world of Japanese denim in the last few decades. We are intensely proud of our collaboration with them and for their willingness to offer us the absolute best denims that Japan has to offer.

Below we will properly introduce the three new denims. Though the fabrics look and feel very different, they are all made on antique shuttle looms from premium cotton. The sanforized but unwashed fabrics have all been made in accordance with ancient Japanese textile traditions and with a surgical attention to detail. All pairs of Realign jeans are made for longevity and designed with long and loving use in mind. With enough time and wear, you’ll grow to love and appreciate these fabrics as much as we do.

Without further ado, let’s introduce the stars of the show:

14 oz. Double Indigo II

Our second double indigo denim, the 14 oz. Double Indigo II features rich indigo tones in both the warp and the weft yarns. This combination creates an incredibly deep and dark denim that fades beautifully. The Double Indigo II denim has been woven from a combination of American and Australian cotton that has been rope dyed in pure indigo. When fresh off the rack, the denim has a purple-ish hue. As the denim fades, purple becomes vibrant blue. In time, the blue gives way to white in areas of stress, leading to stunning contrast fades.

17 oz. Atsude Selvedge

With the 17 oz. Atsude Selvedge fabric, we added a new and heavier denim to our selvedge lineup. We loved the fabric at first sight. Woven from slub yarns in Kojima, Japan, this fabric boasts a unique character and a typically Japanese structure. The loosely woven heavyweight is surprisingly comfortable, giving a surprisingly comfortable selvedge experience from day one. The rope-dyed slub yarns add oceans of depth to the 17 oz. Atsude Selvedge denim and help produce fantastic high-low contrast fading. Given enough time and wear, this denim will become a true show-stopper!

14.5 oz. Osaka Denim

The 14.5 oz. Osaka Denim takes us back to the early days of Japanese denim. With its hairy and structured surface, Osaka Denim draws both hand and eye thanks to its eye-catching pink selvedge line and its beautifully deep and dark blue color with a gray cast. Although the fabric comes unwashed, it is soft and comfortable from day one. Easy to wear for long stretches, the 14.5 oz. denim is primed for beautiful all-over fades. The perfect mid-weight denim for all-year-round wear, Osaka Denim will be the perfect introduction to the world of well-made selvedge for raw denim newcomers!

All three fabrics are available in our Regular Kenji silhouette and can be purchased from our webstore. We offer free worldwide shipping on all purchases through our webstore. You’ll find more information about the fit and details on the product pages.
