Care

All of our jeans are made from a raw, unwashed and untreated denim. To us, this is denim in its purest state. Our jeans are meant to be well worn and become your companion for many months, and years to come. They are made for longevity and with the appropriate care you can prolong the life of your jeans with just a few simple cleaning methods.

Below we’ve provided some instructions to help you keep your jeans as fresh for as long as possible, all while getting the best fades from your denim. We’ve also included some further background information on denim and indigo which you can find here. Remember, there is no right or wrong way to wash your jeans and the advice below is only guidance.

Jeans, for a lifetime

Wear

Denim is a hard wearing fabric which is made to be worn and put through its paces. Originally designed for workwear in the late Nineteenth Century, denim still retains its rugged properties today. As a result, denim doesn’t need washing as regularly as you might think. In order for your jeans to fit and fade as best as possible, it is advisable to postpone the first wash. This gives your jeans the opportunity to mold to your body shape and develop great wear patterns in the fabric. We would advise washing your jeans only after 6-12 months of regular wear and ‘airing’ them if needed in the meantime.

Soak

However, if you feel the need to wash your jeans during the first 6-12 months of wear, we would advise soaking them rather than a machine wash or dry clean. This will ensure any dirt and odor is removed but retains a higher level of indigo than a conventional machine wash. Follow these simple steps as a guide to soaking your jeans;

  1. Button up your jeans and turn them inside out.
  2. Put the jeans in a bathtub (or large bucket) filled with lukewarm water and some washing detergent.
  3. Ensure your jeans are submerged under the water for between 20-30 minutes (use a weighted object if you need to).
  4. Once the jeans have been soaked carefully rinse them under lukewarm water to remove any excess detergent or dirt.
  5. Hang your jeans outside to dry.

Note: during the soaking process, the jeans may bleed and loose some indigo dye, so be careful with light colored surfaces.

Wash

If the time comes to eventually wash your jeans, we’ve included some simple steps to follow below;

  1. Button up your jeans and turn them inside out.
  2. Set the washing machine to 40°C, add washing detergent and make sure to disable all tumble dry or spin functions.
  3. Once the cycle has finished, remove the jeans from the washing machine and hang them outside to dry.

Note: during the soaking process, the jeans may bleed and loose some indigo dye, so be careful with light colored surfaces.

Repair

We make it our mission to equip you with the highest quality denim and hard wearing jeans, but even if you look after your denim it’s likely they may eventually need to be repaired. This is inevitable, but can be easily addressed using the right service and level of expertise. Common spots for repair on jeans include the crotch, knees and back pockets. We would advise seeking out a specialist denim repair store in your country to ensure the best service possible and the highest quality repair, making sure your jeans can continue their life for many more wears. If you’re unsure where to send your jeans, get in touch with us directly via email and we’ll recommend somewhere if we’re able to.
